Dear Parent/Carer,

I want to write to you to thank you for your ongoing support over the past term.

Spring is a time filled with potential, and it has been a thrill for all of us to be able to embrace the opportunities the easing in restrictions has presented us with over the Spring Term; it has also been wonderful to reconnect with you.  I would also like to thank those of you who responded to our recent survey; we really value your feedback and we will use it to shape further opportunities for engagement over the summer term.  We hope to welcome more of you into our new building over the coming months as we re-establish our Parent Forum and in person Parents’ Evenings, and host social events for our families to attend.

There is no doubt that recovery from the pandemic for all of our community members is going to take time.  However, we are very proud of your child who has demonstrated the resilience and motivation to rebuild their knowledge, understanding and learning habits over the past few months.  In particular this is exemplified in their recent Progress Test performance, which we will share with you in the coming weeks.  I would also like to thank you for taking the time at home to support your child in their efforts as a CHS South student – you are doing a brilliant job.  Together we will work to restore and renew our community to achieve its incredible potential.

After a hiatus, I am also delighted to be able to share our latest version of ‘Spotlight on South’ with you, which can be found here: https://www.chssouth.org.uk/parents/communication-with-home/parent-email-newsletters.  As you will see in this issue, the CHS South community has embraced the enrichment and personal development opportunities provided by the easing of restrictions over the past term.  We have been so pleased to be able to re-introduce these essential components of every child’s school experience and look forward to celebrating even more exciting opportunities and achievements with you in our next issue!

Finally, this week we have been contacted by Manchester Public Health.  There has been a recent increase in the number of cases of scarlet fever across Greater Manchester – and some cases within Manchester, too.  Scarlet fever is a highly contagious, bacterial infection that mostly affects young children (commonly between the ages of 2-8). It can spread very easily through coughing and sneezing, as well as coming into contact with an infected person. But, there are ways that we can limit how many people catch it. The Director of Public Health has advised that the attached letter is shared with local families to inform them of what to look out for and what action needs to be taken.

Students return to school on Wednesday 20th April following their regular timetable; students will be able to access a free breakfast in the Dining Room from 8am as always.  As always please ensure your child is safe when in the local community over the holiday period.  As you will be aware from the local news, we have seen an increase in the number violent incidents involving young people in the Manchester region.  Please ensure your child is informed and aware of how to be responsible and safe when out and about and seek further support if necessary; there are lots of great online resources and advice and guidance available to support young people such as https://www.themix.org.uk/ or https://www.childline.org.uk/

I hope you and your family have a peaceful and restful Easter break.

Yours sincerely,

David Prophet
